Introduction Piggery farming, as a key component of the agricultural sector, has the potential to play a pivotal role in achieving national development goals by addressing critical issues such as food security, employment generation, and economic diversification. However, despite its recognized potential, piggery investment faces several challenges, including limited access to finance, inadequate infrastructure, and suboptimal market access, which hinder its contribution to national economies. Piggery farming, or pig farming, has increasingly been recognized as a critical aspect of agriculture with the potential to foster national economic development. . The global demand for animal-based protein is rising, with pork being one of the most widely consumed meats worldwide. Piggery investment, therefore, presents an opportunity for nations to meet local demand for affordable protein while also contributing significantly to the national economy. This research assessed the impact of piggery investment as a significant contributor to a nation's food security, entrepreneurship development, tax revenue generation, and economic growth. Methodology The study adopts a mixed-methods approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative techniques, through surveys, interviews, and field observations, the research examined the relationship between piggery investment and the four key outcomes. The survey targeted pig farmers, entrepreneurs, government officials, and key industry stakeholders across various farm sizes and regions. Multiple regression analysis was used to assess the contributions of factors such as farm size, access to credit, market access, government support, and infrastructure on food security, entrepreneurship development, tax revenue generation, and economic growth. Findings and discussion The study found out that large-scale piggery operations, supported by improved infrastructure, government subsidies, and enhanced market access, have a greater impact on food security and entrepreneurship development. The piggery sector contributed positively to tax revenue generation, particularly when formalisation and increased access to financing were achieved. Moreover, the growth of the piggery industry has the potential to drive significant economic growth through the creation of jobs, regional income generation, and fostering entrepreneurial ventures within the value chain, such as feed production, pig slaughtering, and meat processing. Conclusion The study concluded that piggery investment plays a vital role in supporting national development, particularly in developing countries. The significant contributions of piggery farming to food security, entrepreneurship development, tax revenue generation, and economic growth highlight its potential as a key driver of sustainable development.
