Introduction The Research examines the impact of improper solar inverter system installation on the lifespan of solar installations. Recently, the lifespan of solar systems has been inconsistent due to various factors, with improper installation being one of the key issues deviating from manufacturer specifications. According to the manufacturer, the system considered has an expected lifespan of five years. This paper investigates the causes of failures and the reasons behind the observed lack of expected longevity. A survey was conducted, and the data collected reveals that only two out of ten installations meet the expected lifespan as per the manufacturer’s data, this in effect will affect its use in Agriculture and its transformation. Methology A questionnaire was developed based on specific evaluation criteria to assess the quality and compliance of battery installation practices. In addition to this, an investigative method was employed, involving site visits to ten (10) installation locations. The following points served as the basis for evaluation: 1. Battery Selection: Was the installation carried out using the appropriate type of battery suitable for the application? 2. Ventilation: Was the battery installation equipped with a proper ventilation system to ensure safe operation and prevent overheating? 3. Earthing/Grounding: Did the installer implement proper earthing methods in accordance with standard specifications and safety requirements? 4. Charging Provision: Was the installation designed with an adequate charging system or estimation to prevent battery undercharging? 5. Wiring and Connections: Were the battery terminals connected correctly using the appropriate wire gauge (American Wire Gauge - AWG) and suitable connectors? 6. Battery-Inverter Communication (for Lithium-Ion): Was proper communication established between the battery and the inverter in cases where a Lithium-Ion battery was used? 7. Temperature Sensor Installation: Was a temperature sensor correctly installed to enable the inverter to monitor battery temperature and adjust charging behavior or stop charging when necessary? Conclusion It can be deduced that improper installation significantly reduced the lifespan of the solar inverter systems, leading to overall poor performance. The findings also suggest that the absence of proper monitoring systems was a major contributor to the reduced lifespan. Additionally, poor charging practices, the use of incorrect battery types, and inappropriate wiring gauge were all contributing factors.
