Harnessing the Ethical Elements of Our Traditional Pottery in the Formulation and Implementation of Policies to Stem the Tide of Extinction of Cultural Heritage in the Nation

Extended Abstract Introduction This article investigates the ethical and moral principles linked with traditional pottery and their impact on the development of regulations to protect cultural heritage. The study uses Oyo Central Pottery as a case study to demonstrate the detrimental effects of diminishing cultural heritage due to insufficient legislative support. Oyo Central Pottery, formerly a bustling traditional pottery hub, has become dormant, emphasizing the need for activities that honor cultural identity, craftmanship, and sustainable practices. The purpose of this study is to better understand the impact of policy neglect on cultural heritage. Materialsand methods/Methodology. The study uses a combination of primary and secondary data to investigate community viewpoints and historical settings associated with traditional pottery. To assess the cultural relevance of Oyo Central Pottery, data collection includes interviews with local artists and review of historical record to assess the cultural significance of Oyo. Resultsanddiscussion The findings show that the neglect of traditional pottery has resulted in a significant cultural divide in the community. The study shows how incorporating ethical principles can promote the comeback and appreciation of traditional pottery, highlighting the need for community involvement, intergenerational knowledge transfer, and legal safeguards in policy design. Conclusions This study emphasizes the importance of integrating ethical concepts into policymaking to conserve cultural heritage. Policymakers can help restore cultural practices by focusing on traditional ceramics, ensuring that future generations value and preserve their cultural identity. The report also offers future research directions, such as looking at other traditional crafts experiencing comparable issues.
