Introduction Notice boards are a means for information dissemination, such as announcements, notices, schedules, and other important information in public and public places. The world of information and communication dissemination methods is developing at an alarming rate. The process of sharing information has undergone a dramatic revolution. The old and conventional methods of communication include paper noticeboards and static posters. Wood, cock, fabrics, aluminium, composites, and steel are used for traditional notice boards. Traditional notice boards made from wood or other materials tend to degrade over time, suffering from wear and tear, weather damage, and less frequent use. These issues increased maintenance costs, reduced effectiveness, and frequent replacements. The traditional notice board has several limitations. The types of suspended notice boards include: wall-mounted notice boards, free-standing notice boards, suspended notice boards, and digital notice boards. The production of notice boards involves some considerations, including the properties of a material, design criteria, and the safety of the users. The development of suspended notice boards from the traditional to modern was necessary to eliminate the associated limitations and provide improved methods of information dissemination that are efficient, electrically controlled, and display multimedia content. Methodology Traditional suspended notice boards were highlighted. A literature review of the historical development of suspended notice boards from the ancient, traditional to the modern notice boards was done. The types and materials used for suspended notice boards were reviewed. The property, design, and safety considerations of modern notice boards were highlighted. The merits, demerits, and content of traditional and modern suspended notice boards were reviewed and tabulated. Results and discussion Suspended notice boards are essential for information dissemination and have been in use since ancient times. Traditional notice boards are made from wood, cork, and fabrics, while modern notice boards are made from aluminium, composites, and electronic materials. Traditional notice boards display static and print messages, and they are physically controlled, while modern notice boards are used for real-time information dissemination with improved features for multimedia and are electronically and remotely controlled. Conclusion Notice boards play a pivotal role in communication across various sectors, including education, corporate, private, and public domains. Traditional notice boards undergo degradation and require frequent maintenance and replacement. Materials used for notice boards have been improved. Suspended notice boards have been developed from traditional, physically-controlled notice boards to more dynamic notice boards with powerful tools for enhanced communication, and improved engagement for displaying images, videos, and animations for visually appealing and admiration of the viewers.
