Introduction Food insecurity is a major challenge hindering sustainable agricultural development in Nigeria. This paper examined the role of public-private partnerships (PPP) in ensuring food security in Nigeria. Specifically, the paper examined the role of PPP in promoting sustainable agricultural development and food security, as well as the challenges hindering its effectiveness in Nigeria. Materials and methods/Methodology This study used secondary data from journals and articles on Google Scholar. Content analysis was used to analyze the gathered data. Results and discussion The findings of the study revealed that free competition and innovative development are some of the roles of PPP in ensuring food security, while factors such as rising commodity prices, banditry, and kidnapping are some of the major challenges to food security in Nigeria. From the perspective of the farmers, a significant contributing factor to the prevalence of food insecurity is the lack of sufficient funds. Conclusions The study concluded that PPP has a positive impact on food security in Nigeria, thereby promoting sustainable agricultural development. It is therefore recommended that there is a need to develop more frameworks that will encourage more collaboration of public and private organizations in the agriculture sector to enable the provision of enough funds for farmers so that it will enable them to produce in large quantities. By so doing, strengthening the income through farming will encourage more supply of agricultural products, thereby enhancing food security.
